Lucy River is an attorney with experience in criminal law and civil litigation, most recently with the Law Offices of Erika E. Anderson, and the Law Offices of the Public Defender. Lucy has represented clients in personal injury, medical malpractice, civil rights, and employment matters, from the victim's perspective. She has also worked as a trial attorney in indigent criminal defense.
Lucy graduated cum laude from the University of New Mexico School of Law in 2019, where she received awards in the Child & Family Justice Clinic, Elements of Legal Argumentation III, and Civil Rights.
In addition to her legal experience, Lucy brings years of knowledge from her past roles in various aspects of government and the criminal justice system. Immediately prior to law school, Lucy was the Director of Policy and Communications at New Mexico Ethics Watch, a non-profit dedicated to open government. She has also worked as a lobbyist with J.D. Bullington Government Relations, was the Policy and Legislative Outreach Director for the Department of Corrections, and -- for a brief time -- a police officer. Having seen these systems in operation, Lucy formed a passion for criminal justice reform, the enforcement of civil rights, and for government accountability.
Lucy received her Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice Studies from New Mexico Highlands University, and received a Diploma in Speech and Drama Studies from DIT Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin, Ireland--her country of birth. She is a mother, a published poet, a two-stripe blue belt in jiu jitsu, and an indoor cycling instructor. Lucy values grit, hard-work, and civility. She brings these values to her work with clients.
Lucy is licensed to practice at the New Mexico State Bar and before the United States District Court of New Mexico. She is also a member of the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association. Beginning January 1, 2022, Lucy will be Board Member of the State Bar of New Mexico Solo and Small Firm Section .
